Overview

Middle Child is a Southeast Asian restaurant tucked away in the vibrant Melawai neighborhood of South Jakarta. Situated on Jl. Panglima Polim IX, this spot offers a cozy refuge for both casual diners and remote workers seeking a balance between comfort and flavor.

The menu shines with unique takes on classic dishes, especially their gourmet burgers. Signature items like the PB&J Burger and Lava Burger deliver a playful twist, while the Mechanic and Karens Burgers provide hearty, satisfying options. Beyond burgers, the Manado Curry Pasta and Double Australian Wagyu demonstrate Middle Child’s ambition to blend local and international flavors with finesse. Complementing the food is a carefully curated beverage list, featuring solid coffee selections and the stand-out Lychee Bloom Cream, adding a refreshing finish to any meal.

The atmosphere fosters focus without sacrificing charm. Customers appreciate its dim lighting and spacious seating, which includes ample table space and outlets—important for those working remotely. While the Wi-Fi speed is moderate, the overall setup supports productivity, making it a preferred spot for freelancers and casual meetings alike. The presence of a dedicated prayer room, albeit small, reflects mindful consideration for local customs.

Customer feedback paints a nuanced picture: the restaurant scores high on ambiance and friendliness of staff, noted for quick and attentive service. However, some have pointed out areas for improvement such as seating cleanliness and portion sizes relative to value. Natural light floods the space during the day, occasionally raising temperatures but enhancing the airy feel. Accessibility is another plus, with convenient public transport links and parking below the venue.

In essence, Middle Child caters well to those who appreciate a relaxed environment paired with distinctive Southeast Asian-inspired fare. Whether you’re looking to enjoy cleverly crafted burgers, a warm coffee, or a quiet place to work, it delivers a balanced experience that respects both taste and atmosphere.

Template Review I recently visited Middle Child to work from there, and here’s my experience: 1. Ambiance & Atmosphere:
The overall vibe of the cafe was cozy and quiet. The lighting was dim, which made it perfect for focus. 2. Workspace Setup:
The seating options were nice. There were adequate power outlets, but you still need to bring your own power outlets just in case, and spacious tables. The Wi-Fi speed was average, which is crucial for working remotely. 3. Food & Beverages:
The menu offered a good selection. I tried their burger and pasta, and found them to be delicious. 4. Prayer Room:
The prayer room was clean, but narrow. Only fits for 1 person. It had prayer mats and ablution area. 5. Staff & Service:
The staff were friendly, attentive, and helpful. My order was prepared quickly. 6. Overall Recommendation:
I’d recommend Middle Child for remote workers, casual meetings, and social hangouts.

The food is not bad, decent place for a quick bunch. However, the portions are quite small for the price. The poached egg lacked any seasoning as well. Also the restaurant isn’t the most clean, there were some stains on the seats.

Used to be Karen’s Diner Jakarta. Pretty chill spot to get some work done, not too crowded during the day. It does get kinda warm though, and super bright ’cause of all the natural light. There are a few plugs but not many, so if you’re WFC-ing, better grab a seat near the wall. Coffee’s alright, nothing crazy but still solid. Parking’s downstairs.

generally a nice space for wfc or hangout with freinds. i ordered long black and nasi kandar. coffee was relatively good, i was expecting the nasi kandar to have more spice. the chicken too, but it was real juicy tho. outdoor seating is also good but ash tray was not available at the table, so need to ask the waiter each time i wanted to have a little smoke break. air conditioner might need to be colder especially when its quite packed inside. wifi was a bit wonky, had troubles connecting. parking space is available below and quite spacious. definitely aesthetic and could decorate your feed or ig story

Had an amazing time at WFC today! The ambience was absolutely on point, warm, inviting, and full of good energy. The space feels well-designed and vibrant without being overwhelming. Whether you’re there to relax, hang out with friends, or just soak in the atmosphere, it really delivers. Overall, a great place with great vibes. Definitely had a blast and would love to come back soon!

The food tastes okay, nothing special but wasn't bad either. The Tom Yum used proper shrimp, calamari, and clams. The burger had well made meat. The price was a tad high. The service was good, the waiter was friendly and knowledgeable about all the different drinks. They were quick to The atmosphere is okay too, the music was pleasant, the seats and tables were comfortably spaces. The knack here was the cleanliness of the bathroom, too many tissues on the floor and on the sink.
